The burglars were found to be linked to Nixon's administration. Nixon attempted a cover-up and denied involvement, but the discovery of several tape recordings showed that Nixon had been in charge of several illegal actions. Nixon resigned. The consequences of the scandal were several people were arrested and Nixon had to resign.
